Our Story

Healing Without Barriers

At Sozo For Life, we believe healing should never be limited by income.

Every day in El Paso, we meet individuals and families carrying deep pain, grief from losing a loved one, trauma from violence, anxiety, depression, and overwhelming life stress. Many want help. Many need help. But too often, they don’t seek it.

Why?

Because they simply cannot afford it.

El Paso is a resilient and beautiful community, but many families live under financial strain. When forced to choose between rent, groceries, or counseling, mental health care often becomes the sacrifice. As a result, trauma goes untreated. Grief is carried alone. Violence leaves invisible wounds that never fully heal.

Healing Without Barriers was created to change that.

Through this initiative, we work to remove financial obstacles so individuals and families can access professional, trauma-informed mental health care regardless of their economic situation.

This means:

  • Offering sliding-scale and reduced-fee sessions

  • Supporting uninsured and underinsured clients

  • Providing grief counseling and trauma recovery care

  • Expanding access for youth and families in vulnerable communities

We have seen what happens when someone finally receives support:
Hope returns.
Families begin to rebuild.
Cycles are interrupted.
Lives are restored.

What are people sharing…..

  • Sozo has helped me build my character and truly understand my values. So often we carry things like shame, anxiety, depression, fear, feeling unworthy, and negative thinking. We get so used to living with those things that we begin to think it’s normal — that this is just how life is supposed to be. Through Sozo, I realized that this is not the way we were meant to live. Healing is always possible. I’ve learned to recognize why I feel certain ways and, more importantly, that I have the ability to grow and change. No matter what you’re carrying or feeling, they are there to walk with you through it.

It wasn’t until I found the courage to ask for the help I had been silently crying out for that things began to change for me. Going to Sozo has been life-changing. It has helped me become deeply self-aware and gently uncover the things I’ve carried from birth into adulthood. For the first time, I’ve been able to truly process my experiences instead of suppressing them. What once felt heavy and now feels understood, faced, and healing.
